The botanical name for sage is Salvia officinalis, which comes from combining the Latin ‘salvere’ meaning to be healthy and heal, along with ‘officinalis’ – a broad term denoting organisms, usually plants. Sage itself has been shown to have a high concentration of naturally occurring antioxidants which contribute to the natural defences of the body.
