2′-fucosyllactose (2?-FL) is an oligosaccharide, or more specifically a trisaccharide, made up of fucose, galactose and glucose. It is the most abundant oligosaccharide present in human breast milk. MetaFucose? contains 2′-FL that has been produced by fermentation.
2′-FL is commonly found in the mucus of the intestine, where it forms part of the body’s natural defense
system.
2′-FL is non-digestible and arrives in the colon intact, where it functions as a prebiotic, helping to support
a healthy level of bifidobacteria.
It may also help to increase the level of SCFA (short chain fatty acids), which are known to have a wide
range of benefits including regulation of the immune system, maintenance of the gut barrier, and protection
